UPDATE: De Pere apartment complex fire causes $200k in

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – The De Pere Fire Department has given an update on the fire at an apartment complex that caused North Broadway to close down.

According to a release, around 9:15 a.m., firefighters were sent to a multiunit apartment complex for a report of a structure fire with smoke and flames showing.

After arriving, firefighters noticed a limited number of residents had already evacuated from their apartments. The De Pere Police Department was called to the scene to help assist with traffic control and further evacuations from the apartments.

Firefighters entered the structure and were able to contain the fire quickly. Four apartments were damaged by the fire and those living in the four apartments are now without a home. The American Red Cross is helping out with those residents.

Due to the size and complexity of the building, additional resources from Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, Ledgeview, Hobart, Morrison, County Rescue, Howard, Greenleaf, and Wayside to assist with the incident. De Pere Health Department, American Red Cross, and Lamers Bus Lines helped with providing shelter and other needs for the residents during the incident.

The Brown County Fire Investigation Team is still investigating on what caused Wednesday’s fire and there were no reports of injuries to any resident or firefighter. Crews were on the scene for around four hours and damages are estimated around $200,000.

Original Story: Numerous fire and police vehicles on North Broadway, De Pere PD ask to avoid area

WEDNESDAY 6/29/2022 – 9:51 a.m.

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Numerous fire and police vehicles are in the area of North Broadway in De Pere.

The De Pere Police Department is asking people to avoid the area near the Crows Nest Apartments.

According to officers, they are asking for people to plan an alternate route due to traffic being currently shut down on North Broadway.

Around 9:30 a.m. crews were notified of smoke and flames coming from an apartment at Crows Nest Apartments. According to battalion chief Brett Jansen, the fire was contained in one apartment and is under control.

Jansen also stated that the cause of the fire is unknown, as well as the estimated fire damage.

There are no injuries but they are still working on a headcount for all of the residents.

Officials say that they are using school buses to transfer any displaced residents.

It is estimated that crews will remain on scene for an additional 2 to 4 hours.
